Red/Gold Silk Sari

  • Design: Denise Gribble

The six yard red/gold silk sari used to make this traditional western style wedding gown was heavily beaded and encrusted with metal embroidery…..most of the beadwork was removed to facilitate manufacture of the gown, and then re-beaded. The full skirt of this gown is made from a perfectly matching red silk taffeta, overlaid by a very delicate vintage style tulle. The pallau section of the sari was used for the bodice, the two borders from the top and bottom of the sari were removed and hand appliqued to the hem of the skirt and train. These photographs show: 1. The very beautiful sari before it was cut to make the gown with detailed closeups of embroidery and beadwork 2. The final fitting of the completed gown 3. Toile/calico fitting 4. The Wedding Day 5. Sketches of the final design chosen by the bride. PrettyStitch submitted eleven different designs/style suggestions with many ways to use the sari – we love the bride's final choice.
